Music Director

Olga Reztsova is strongly committed to educational programs that not only bring young audiences to classical music performances but also allow young musicians to participate in those concerts as orchestra players. As an experienced professional conductor she has a natural gift to connect music to the student's everyday life and inspire them to practice and polish their skills in a creative, fun and very competitive atmosphere.

Ms. Reztsova was born in 1969 to Russian parents living in Ukraine. She began to study the violin at the age of four and in 1979 had her debut with Orchestra - M.Bruch, Violin Concerto in G. In 1984 she moved to Moscow (Russia) to study Violin at Moscow State Conservatory (class of professor Maya Glezarova). After graduating with a Master's Degree in Violin, Ms. Reztsova continued her music career as a conductor.

She spent four years at Kiev State Conservatory studying instrumental and opera conducting with professor Vladimir Kozhukhar and received her Master's Degree Diploma with Honor. During her last year in Ukraine she was a conductor of the Academic Symphony Orchestra of National Ukrainian Radio Company and also completed her first year of doctoral studies at the Ukrainian National Music Academy.

In 2002, Olga Reztsova moved to the United States and continued with Peninsula Symphony (Palos Verdes CA) as Principal Second Violin and assistant conductor while learning English, adjusting to a new environment.

Five years later, in 2007, Ms. Reztsova incorporated a new Youth Symphony in San Diego - the only after school Youth Symphony in State of California with no tuition or fees. Her professional skills, unbreakable faith in success, enthusiasm and incredible ability to lead the team - turned "East County Youth Symphony" into a rising star. In less than 3 years the Orchestra grew from 17 to 104 musicians and performed over 30 concerts with programs that include: A.Dvorak - Symphonies No.8, No.9; L. van Beethoven - Symphonies No.1, No.5, No.7; F.Schubert - "Unfinished" Symphony, among others.

Olga Reztsova said: "Music education for gifted children should not become a financial hardship for their families." And many people seem to agree - the fact that East County Youth Symphony's budget increased during the 2007-2009 economic downturn speaks for itself and shows how much appreciation and support Ms. Reztsova's Orchestra receives from the community, musician's families, local businesses and local government.
